Thanks for looking. This site is mainly a have-list and want-list of my Frank Thomas collection. You will also find other cards, many of which are for trade/sale.
My name is Chad and this is my attempt at a website. Please bear with me as I am by no means a website specialist or an English major. In fact, I'm a plumber! This site is basically an attempt to display some of my Frank Thomas collection and meet and chat with other collectors. If you have any comments or suggestions I'm all ears! I try to update the site constantly, but being a father and a small business owner puts serious time restraints on my schedule.
I started collecting baseball cards in 1988. My first pack of cards was '88 Donruss purchased by my Grandmother. Growing up, the only thing available to me was retail packs. The problem with that was most of the time, the odds of pulling a nice insert was much harder than doing so in a hobby pack. I started collecting Frank Thomas in 1991. All of my friends collected Griffey Jr. So I had to be different. I would trade all of my Griffey's, Canseco's, McGriff's, and Bond's for all the Thomas cards I could get my hands on.
I remember opening box after box of '92 Donruss with my Dad looking for the Elite inserts. We finally pulled a Kirby Puckett (which I still have). The next big thing for me was boxes and boxes of '94 Collector's Choice. Man I wanted that Frank Thomas Gold Signature so bad! I also remember opening tons of (retail) packs of '96 Ultra, Collector's Choice, Summit, Leaf Preferred, and Pinnacle. I never really pulled anything good except a '96 Ultra Mark McGwire Thunderclap Gold Medallion. Over the course of moving several times it somehow vanished. I stopped collecting in 1996 and moved on to "bigger & better" things. I was getting older and had other interests that put an end to my collecting days.
I started collecting again in 2006. I was amazed at all of the "new" gimmicks such as the game-used cards, ultra low-numbered inserts, and all of the auto's. I began to buy random Frank Thomas singles off of Beckett Marketplace. Looking back now I can laugh about it. I then moved on to buying bulk lots of Frank Thomas cards on Ebay. I soon became bored with the base cards a minor inserts and set my eyes on bigger things...like game-used cards. I purchased a few a stared at them in amazement for days. I still could not get over the fact that my baseball card had a piece of Frank Thomas' jersey in it! LOL. After the "wow" factor wore off I really became a "collector" again and dove head-first into the whole scene. I knew I had alot of catching up to do. I kept trying to purchase a Frank Thomas auto for $20 or less. Needless to say, it didn't happen.
